Guitar Hero Tom Petty NOT playing Guitar Hero III at Superbowl Halftime

So I received an e-mail with a link to a news story stating that Tom Petty would be performing “Through the Fire and Flames” at this years Superbowl halftime show. Unfortunately the story is not true.

A little research showed that the story was copied from the Serious Sports News Network website, which is a spoof website similar to The Onion.

While this would be a fantastic draw of viewers who might not otherwise tune in to the Superbowl, the story is just not true.

But this is definately something for Superbowl organizers to think about - Why not get an artist who has a song in the tracklisting for a Guitar Hero or Rock Band song, obviously have them perform a few of their hits the “real” way, then have them bust out into the video game version of their song with all out plastic guitar (and drums, and vocals, and “bass”)? Come on guys, I would even be tempted to watch.
