Newsweek to feature an article on Harmonix

newsweekcover_rockband.jpgHarmonix, the creators of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, will be featured in the May 6 copy of Newsweek.

But, if you can’t wait that long to pick up the issue, you can read the article online over at the Newsweek website.

The article touches on Harmonix’ studio, their critically acclaimed but low selling early offerings, attaining success after partnering with Red Octane for Guitar Hero, and their current success with Rock Band.

The Newsweek article also offers a glimpse into the future of Harmonix and Rock Band.

From the article;

Rigopulos and Egozy won’t reveal their next act, other than to admit they’re trying to land songs from bands like the Beatles, U2 and Springsteen. But something’s up. Harmonix is looking to hire 70 more employees. The biggest hint comes from Greg LaPiccolo, Harmonix’s product-development chief and former bass player for the indie band Tribe. “Now it’s like karaoke,” he says. “The long-term ambition is to give players more creative freedom.” That means you’ll eventually be able to create your own guitar leads and wailing vocal fills. It’s unclear, of course, whether that presumed artistry will help you gain or lose points in the game.

This idea of creating your own tracks has been coming from the developers at Harmonix for a few months now, with the idea likely being a part of future Rock Band sequels. An idea that we’re hoping to see in the near future.
