Guitar Hero: On Tour - The Guitar Grip Prototype

Update: Fixed the link…  sorry about that.

Fragland has a very cool entry today from Jeremy Russo who is the Lead Designer for Guitar Hero: On Tour.

He discusses the steps they took to come up with Guitar Hero: On Tour as well as the Guitar Grip peripheral, from the early stages of brainstorming right up to the final production.

From the article;

Does the game need to look like Guitar Hero? Does the game need to play like Guitar Hero? Does the game need a guitar peripheral to be successful? Is it more important for the player to feel like they are playing a guitar or to feel like they are a rock star? Can you have one without the other? Will we have mobs of angry fans outside our doors with torches and pitchforks?We actually didn’t want to know the answer to that last one.”

The best part of the article for us was not only getting an inside look at the mindset of the designers, as well as the steps for the development of a new game and peripheral, but we got to see some pictures of early prototypes.

Admittedly it’s not the prettiest looking thing in the world, but it was just a prototype. Thankfully they added another fret.

To see the rest of the prototype pictures, head on over to the original article.
