How Wii DLC Will Work for Guitar Hero: World Tour

GameDaily caught up with Vicarious Visions CEO Karthik Bala to talk about upcoming releases for the Nintendo Wii. During the interview Bala discusses how Guitar Hero: World Tour will support downloadable content for the Wii.

“Players can preview, purchase and download songs using Wii Points and we’ll have new songs available on a regular basis.

“Players can either download songs to the Wii System Memory or store songs on a SD Card, called the “Rock Archive”. When you want to play songs from the Rock Archive, players can create a custom set list, and then choose a venue and play!”

We’re happy to know that Activision and Vicarious Visions were willing to work around the limitations of the Wii’s storage capability.

Downloading songs to an expandable SD storage system… it’s almost like that idea sounds very familiar. Oh wait, we suggested that when Rock Band was announced for the Wii.

“The Wii currently offers 512 megabytes of internal flash memory for storage, expandable via SD flash cards. Rock Band downloadable tracks range roughly between 20 and 40 megabytes per song.

It’s a shame that Harmonix couldn’t work with Nintendo to allow the DLC on the Wii. Although 512 megabytes isn’t a lot of memory, SD memory is fairly cheap and surely Wii owners would be willing to purchase memory to store downloaded songs on.”

Did Activision and Vicarious Visions get the idea to use the SD cards from us? Probably not, but hopefully now Harmonix will take a cue from Activision and ensure that DLC will available for the Wii for Rock Band 2.
