Rock Revolution Publisher Decries Lack of Controller Compatibility

MTV has just published a story about the Guitar Hero and Rock Band rivalry.  The focus of the story seems to be on the cost to the consumer at having to purchase more game instruments when new games come out.

The part of the story that caught our attention involves an interview with Keith Matejka of Konami, who are producing a  game similar to Guitar Hero and Rock Band called Rock Revolution.

Matejka expressed dissapointment that the current instrument controllers are not made to be compatible with similar games saying;

“Peripherals are expensive for the user and they are expensive to produce. The existing peripherals all deliver only a slightly different gameplay experience. Different teams have varying perspectives on what should be compatible with each game. I think all guitar- and drum-based games need to be compatible with each other to some level.”

Mind you, Matejka didn’t come out and say Rock Revolution would be compatible with the instruments out there…  and seeing as how the Rock Revolution drums have more pads than the competition, I wouldn’t expect too much compatibility.
