EA to Australia: Suck It
By Jill Lentz on Jul 30, 2008 in News
EA didn’t actually say “suck it”, in fact they haven’t really said much. Reports are slowly coming out about the release of Rock Band for Australia however, and we feel for you, Australia.
While Rock Band 2 is getting a North American release in September, those in and around Australia will still be waiting for the original Rock Band which is rumored to be released on October 16. It’s worth mentioning that Rock Band was released in North America on November 20, 2007.
Those wanting Rock Band 2 will see a similar wait, with Rock Band 2 expected in Australia sometime around mid-2009.
Not only have Australians been bent over on the wait, but the game is going to be expensive as well. To purchase just the game, it will be $120 for a copy (Xbox 360 and PS3), and you have to purchase the equipment separately. A hardware bundle with drums, a guitar, and a mic will set you back $270. That brings the bundle price to a nice total of $390. Oh, and throw in another $100 if you want an extra guitar.
Harmonix, on the Rock Band forums have stated however that the pricing is not correct by saying;
For the record, this article is completely wrong. I don’t know where the information came from but it certainly wasn’t from us at Harmonix.
When we have accurate and reliable information on an AUS launch of RB (pricing, dates, etc) we’ll post it here for you. Until you get word from us here on this site, it’s probably safe to assume that anything else is speculation or rumour.
While we’re willing to believe that the pricing is incorrect, we don’t think it will be too far off the mark.

I read an article where there ws speculation that EA would make their own cpnsole, which is not true. But if that was true, how much to you think it would cost if they sold everything seperately?
You got the console for $300, the harddrive for let’s say $150, 2 controllers for $130 and from above thet price of the game, $120.
$600 in total. And that harddrive was only 40GB, larger one’s are 60GB and 100GB. That’s just wrong to do to anyone. Make them pay $400 for a game, plus it’s all wired instruments, not even wireless.

I don’t think it matters whether the instruments are wireless or not… if it works out to $400 or even close you can expect the same kind of backlash as with the european release.
I just moved to New Zealand, and I’m glad I brought my games with me
The prices here are incredibly high to begin with, but $400 would be extremely steep.
Now I just need to import RB2 and GHWT when they come out.
Hmmm…. I think it might be time we did a guide to importing.
