Guitar Hero Hightlights From Activisions Investors Conference Call
By Tyler Ryan on Aug 4, 2008 in News
Activision held their quarterly earning release conference call last week, and while there wasn’t that much news released on the Guitar Hero front, there were a few bits of interest.
They’ve said before, but it really seems that Activision is figuring out how lucrative sales of downloadable content can be.
“Online functionality for certain key titles [is] expected to become a significant component of gameplay for certain platforms for which the company will have continuing performance obligations beyond the sale of the game” they said, with CEO of publishing, Mike Griffith, adding that they would be “more than tripling downloadable song content”.
Activision also restated their intent to really push for the European market with Griffith saying “we’re focused quadrupling our local song content for europe” and “more than doubling our in store kiosk presence”
We’re also wondering how soon other parts of the world might get Guitar Hero World Tour because they also mentioned a “multi territory launch of Guitar Hero World Tour”. While doubtful that this means that countries outside of North America will have the same release date, it gives hope that those across the pond may see the game soon after the initial release.
And our favorite quote from the call;
“Without getting into the product specifics and obviously for competitive reasons, it’s a really strong slate of a combination of new opportunities, new genres…next year there’s a really exciting lineup that should broaden the concept of unleashing your inner rockstar through an even bigger audience”
It’s the mention of ‘new genres’, and a Janco Partners analyst recent talk about even more titles coming in the near future, that excite us.

uh, no.
I think they will branch out only so far.
Like another game similar to 80’s where it’s focused on a time frame, or a game that doesn’t have the variety that a regular Guitar Hero game does.
i.e. Guitar Hero: Punk or something along those lines.

Maybe Guitar Hero: Pop, to compete with the Popstar game coming out. Or Guitar Hero: R&B.
Either would certainly would fit the “broadening the base” role.

Are you sure that with new generes they mean music generes?
Just Guessing…
If it’s music generes there’s not to many generes and they aren’t… good enough…
