Activision Promoting Guitar Hero World Tour with ‘Star Studded’ TV Ads

New commercials have been appearing on TV for Guitar Hero World Tour. Similar to the American Idol commercials back in May, the new Guitar Hero World Tour commercials feature the likes of Tony Hawk, Kobe Bryant, Alex Rodriguez, and Michael Phelps doing their best ‘Tom Cruise in Risky Business impersonations.

If you’re not familiar with the reference you can go rent Risky Business, but I’ll just let you know that the commercial features the aforementioned celebrities in their underwear and button up shirts dancing and lip synching to Bob Seger’s ‘Old Time Rock and Roll’.

These commercials were directed by Brent Ratner (of the X-Men movies) to inspire gamers to “unleash their inner rock star” Ratner said “With the first Risky Business ads we wanted to excite fans by combining two pop culture sensations to create something even bigger. Those commercials were such a hit with Guitar Hero fans we decided to give them the same iconic ‘living room rock star’ moment they love, but as experienced with the new full band version of the game and with an entirely new cast of characters.”

Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has hinted that there will be new commercials saying that “To appeal to the multi-generational Guitar Hero fans out there we tapped a wide range of athletes, actors, and even supermodels to unleash their inner rock stars and live out their rock and roll fantasies.”
